National Film and Sound Archive Cinémathèque screenings (Unclassified 18+)

Electric Shadows Cinemas, City Walk, Canberra

The National Film and Sound Archive Cinémathèque screenings continue in March with the highlight of the "Stellar Stanwyck" season: the newly restored Baby Face (1933), notorious as the film that finally provoked the strict enforcement of the 'Hays Code' by Hollywood studios in mid-1933.

This is followed by a celebration of French cinema, starting with the Australian premiere screening of Jean Luc-Godard's new film, Moments Choisis des Histoire(s) du Cinema. Later in the month is a rare 35mm screening of Robert Bresson's elegiac French Resistance drama A Man Escaped (imported print).

Then begins a new season which continues throughout April - "Max Ophuls: the Music of Time" - celebrating cinema's great master of European sophistication and irony.
